Retro Granny Squares Crochet Blanket

Well Spring has sprung and the start of our adventures in Rusty Bus our 1956 split screen vw camper begins.  We are off to Big Bang a volkswagen festival at Santapod soon so I decided I would have a go at making a retro blanket in bright squares to keep us warm on the chilly evenings.  Having never crocheted before it was a bit of a challenge but once the technique had been mastered it was great fun as it is something that grows very quickly.  I was taught by an eighty something lady at the elderly day centre where I work.  The squares are made using trebles, singles on the straights and sixes in the corners.  I used lots of scraps of wool that I had with a few bright fluorescent colours as I wanted it to have a modern retro twist and not be "old fashioned" in any way yet keep that crocheted blanket feel.

I joined all the squares together using a single crochet running stitch and then made a scalloped edge in trebles (sixes and singles)

So pleased with my first project and know it will look fab in rustybus.

Thanks for stopping by :)
